About Importer for Contacts
Importer for Contacts brings spreadsheets into Apple Contacts, with more control than the import function in Contacts itself. It converts Excel, CSV and tab-delimited files to vCards, maps every field including custom labels, and restores the contact lists a vCard carries.
Native to macOS, it supports every field of a contact card. Every conversion runs on your Mac. The app collects no data and uploads nothing.
FEATURES
- Import .xlsx Excel files directly, including embedded pictures
- Open CSV and tab-delimited files that Apple Contacts rejects
- Identify a file's character encoding in an interactive preview
- Restore contact lists from vCards that hold group information
- Map fields automatically, and keep your corrections for the next import
- Save any field mapping as a reusable import setup
- Create custom labels while you map, or pick one Contacts already knows
- Assign contacts to lists from a column of comma-separated names
- Create missing lists during the import instead of beforehand
- Keep line breaks inside street addresses and notes
- Move fields Contacts does not support into the Note field
- Split labeled values out of one column into separate contact fields
- Import large files without filling up memory
EXTRACTING LABELED VALUES
A single column can hold several values with their labels, such as "work: (123) 456-789, home: (987) 654-321". Map that column to the Phone field and choose "Extract from field" in the Label menu. Each value then arrives as its own entry, carrying the label it had in the file.
BEFORE YOU BUY
Without the In-App Purchase the app imports 10 records, enough to check whether it does what you need.
Importer for Contacts is built for anyone who regularly moves data into Apple Contacts. For the opposite direction, exporting contacts to other formats, look at Exporter for Contacts 2 from the same developer.
